campus building outline

One of the best ways to gain insight into the intellectual community at the heart of the Wesleyan experience is to observe a class. We invite prospective students to do just that.

Please keep the following in mind as you visit classes:

    • Participation is an essential part of Wesleyan classes, and the session you attend is one piece of an ongoing dialogue between professors and students. While visitor comments can be valuable, they may not align with the broader context of the semester-long discussion.

    • Arrive five minutes before class begins and introduce yourself to the professor. Let them know you’re a prospective student who would like to sit in. Ask whether participation is welcome or if you should simply observe. Note that some classes may be closed to visitors due to exams, presentations, or field trips.

    • Please stay for the entire class and wear a mask if the professor requests it.

    • Do two things Wesleyan students do every day: learn something new, and have your ideas and perspectives challenged.

    • Because of ongoing film projects, please call (860) 685-2220 in advance to request permission before visiting film classes.

    • The use of cell phones during class is not permitted. You may be asked to leave if you use your phone while class is in session.

    • Due to the high volume of visitors, we can only extend this invitation to prospective students — no parents, please.

Thank you for helping us maintain the integrity and spirit of Wesleyan’s academic environment!
